Christmas Eve Wedding for Allison and Joe!

I believe it was in October that Joe called me about officiating his wedding to Allison. They really wanted to get married on Christmas Eve when their friends could be present and so that is what we did! I sent them a proposed ceremony based on what Joe told me they wanted and included remembering their loved ones who could not be with us and the blessing of their children. Allison told me that she cried when she read the ceremony and she showed it to a co-worker who remarked it was the sweetest ceremony she had ever heard. They only wanted to add one line to it: "Today you marry your soulmate, the one you laugh with, cry with, and the one who is your best friend."
So, on December 24, 2013, Marty and I traveled to northwest Raleigh to their home. Their "short fat" tree was up lit up with all the gifts under it flanked by poinsettias. (That was one of their kid's description of the tree when she first saw it!)
Joe and I took our places in front of the fireplace and Allison's son, Sean, escorted his mother in. That is Joe's daughter, Ellaina, on the right. She was holding the rings. Samantha, Allison's daughter, was holding down the couch along with their other guests.
They loved their vows and ring exchange.
The  moment their marriage legally begins!
Great kiss!
What a happy couple! Elvis, Allison's chihuahua, was pretty happy too.
"We did it!"
Congratulations to you, Joe and Allison! It was my pleasure and delight to join you in matrimony!
Had to have a photo of this sweet dog and sweet little girl!
Elvis is probably thinking, what's the fuss all about?? He was precious but you know I am such a dog lover and grew up with chihuahuas and they are special little beings!

Carol and Michael Tie The Knot at Home!

It had been at least 15 years since we had seen each other when Carol contacted me about officiating hers and Michael's wedding.  I was simply thrilled beyond words that she had contacted me and that I could be part of joining her and Michael in marriage.  The wedding date was set for November 12, 2013 at 2:15 PM so that all the numbers would line up in sequence! We co-created a simple yet warm and lovely ceremony for them.
It was so good to see Carol and get caught up in our lives. Of course we had both aged a few years but everything else was all the same and we picked up right where we had left off. The wedding day was that day where snow was forecast and became colder and windier as time went by and so they decided that this lovely sun porch would be the perfect location for the ceremony.
Jessica, a mere youngster when I knew her all those years ago was now all grown up now, married and holding her baby son, Lucas, who was our honorary ring bearer!
Lucas and his daddy, Kyle!
Jessica also made this wonderful carrot cake. She said that the recipe came from the Pioneer Woman  and since Marty and I stayed around after the wedding for a slice and a sip of champagne, I can sure attest to it being probably the most delicious carrot cake I have ever tasted.
Michael had synchronized the clock so we could be in place by 14:15 hours, and I could begin the ceremony 16 seconds later.
 Carol is walking toward us.
 And so we begin.....
 Call for the rings......
 I love making that pronouncement!
Carol and Michael have a sweet love story and it was my honor to join them in marriage!
 Congratulations, Carol and Michael!
I had to include this. Michael's father was an accomplished stained glass artist, a skill he perfected after he retired and spent most of his years in retirement crafting beautiful works of art. This is the spectacular carousel he made that graces Carol and Michael's home.
Carol and Michael, it warms my heart to see you and feel your love and joy! I know you are loving being together and that all the circumstances of your lives brought you together!

Bob and Jennifer Get Married!

Quite a few couples these days are waiting beyond their twenties and thirties to marry and I think it is because they are more self confident, independent men and women who are reluctant to just jump into marriage because it is expected by society. Instead they are willing to live their lives happily solo until the perfect one appears in their lives. And so it is with Jennifer and Bob. I was delighted to join them in marriage and loved feeling that self-assured kind of love radiating between them. And, like a lot of couples these days, they chose to do a small intimate kind of wedding at home instead of a more formal glamorous wedding. I did not meet them until I arrived for their wedding on September 13, 2013 although they booked my officiant services back in May.
I learned that Jennifer had grown up in Apex and when her parents passed away, she inherited her childhood home which is set on 10 acres of land. Turns out she is quite the "handy-woman" around the house and is diligently restoring and renovating the family homestead. Bob fit right in because he is handy around the house too. They have really done a nice job on the house!
Before the wedding, I enlisted the assistance of a very nice and capable young man to take photos with my iPhone. I asked him to pretend that he was a wedding photographer and go for it! Turns out he is Jennifer's nephew, Rob, and was there with his fiancee, Leslie. She is sitting here holding a fan next to Rob's empty chair. Of course I asked them when they were getting married and when they both shrugged, I slipped him one of my business cards! Thank you, Rob! Maybe I will see you and Leslie at your wedding!
Our lovely bride walked around from the side of the house on the wrap-around front porch to make her entrance.
Like many love stories, Bob and Jennifer's paths crossed at work. At an orientation meeting one day, he made the comment that "female cats don't spray." Jennifer adamantly disagreed and almost ended the beginning of this love story! But a few weeks later Bob appeared at her desk with a photo of his tuxedo kitty, Winston, who amazingly resembled her kitty, Sebastian, whose photo was sitting on her desk. Then one day while rounding a corner at work, they literally and physically ran into each other. I guess that is what it took to "knock some sense" into them because after that they began spending time together outside of work. And the relationship developed into a great friendship and then love.
Right across the street from their home is the CSX/AMTRAK railroad tracks. Bob told me the trains come through 8 or 9 times a day and they had been hoping one would come through during their wedding and right on time, it did. We all turned and waved and the engineer blew the whistle for us!
 Vows and rings......
 Pronouncement and......
 Kiss, kiss!
Bob and Jennifer, what a delightful couple you are! I am honored to have joined you in marriage. I wish you peace, joy and much love!

Laura and Patrick Wed at Home in Chapel Hill!

I received this email from Laura on January 22, 2013:

My fiance, Patrick, and I are planning a wedding for Friday, June 14, 2013. We were initially going to get married at the court house, but the more we have discussed it, the more we want to do something a little more personal. We are now hoping to have a small ceremony (no more than 20 people) at our home in Chapel Hill. I saw your webpage, and your services seem perfect for us. We are hoping for something simple, meaningful, and fun. I know this is probably fairly late notice, but I am hoping you are available that day. We would love to have the ceremony in the late afternoon, but we can be flexible. Please let me know if you have any availability and if you need more information. Thanks so much!  ~~Laura

I was very happy that I was available and we made all the arrangements, created a sweet ceremony including a short synopsis of their love story, tributes to their family members present, and reflected their serious commitment to each other along with some laughs! So, on June 14th, I arrived at their home in Chapel Hill to meet their families and perform the ceremony. I just never know what amazing things might transpire when I walk into someone's home for a wedding. I was simply blown away (and they were too) to learn that Laura and her family are from Rome, GA -- 18 miles from Cedartown GA where I grew up! Her parents and I never knew each other but we knew places and some people in common. How about that!
Then we got on with the reason I was there in the first place, to marry Patrick and Laura! Everyone gathered in their sunken living room and we did it! Present were both mothers, Karen and Susan, Laura's dad, Hugh, and Patrick's grandmother, Patricia. Laura's cousin Lee Ann and her best friend Ellen and Patrick's brother Cory were there too. Thanks to Lee Ann for these photos.
Laura's dad was happy to sign the license for me along with Ellen.
Patrick and Laura, although we both grew up in places 18 miles apart and although I did not get to know you really well, you seem so well suited for each other and I am so glad you decided not to go to the courthouse and found me. It was my honor to officiate for you! I wish you all the best!
